Big Fish Back – a risk analysis

In the project “Big Fish Back”, initiated by the Swedish government and carried out by the Swedish Board of Fisheries, the possibility of recreating an ecosystem dominated by large predatory fishes in the Baltic Sea was investigated.

It focused both on offshore predatory fish such as cod, and on important coastal predatory fish such as perch and pike.

Measures such as large scale sprat removal in a coastal and an offshore area are planned. However, their ecological consequences need to be evaluated scientifically before any realistic management strategy can be proposed. This has been done within the scope of the project “Big Fish Back – a risk analyses”.
