Fisheries management could be used to enforce a healthier Baltic Sea ecosystem. However, there are considerable uncertainties involved in how fish and fishing influence the rest of the food-web, and thus it is difficult to evaluate what kind of actions concerning fisheries management that would be the most suitable for re-creating a healthy state in the Baltic Sea.
To discuss these questions the workshop “The Baltic Sea fish stocks and fisheries in their ecosystem context” was arranged in December 2007, aiming at highlighting the potential to combat eutrophication of the Baltic Sea, with focus on the Gulf of Finland, through management of fish stocks and fisheries.
The results from the workshop are presented in the report listed to the right.
